As part of the ANR CIM-LIB project, the Faculty of Economics of Saint Joseph University in Beirut and EconomiX (CNRS, Paris Nanterre University) organize a Workshop on Crises and Resilience in Developing Countries on November 2 and 3, 2023. The workshop will be hosted by Saint Joseph University of Beirut.


This international workshop aims to create a research forum to share and discuss cutting-edge theoretical and empirical work, in economics and sociology, on the multidimensional crises shaking developing countries.

 

TOPICS OF INTEREST

Inequality, poverty, and redistribution; Banking and financial crises; Labor market and unemployment; Challenges of the digitalization of economies; Healthcare systems and health issues; Education systems; Environmental issues, climate change, and energy; Gender inequality, religious and ethnic minorities; Demographic issues; Migration and income transfers; Political systems and conflicts.

 

WORKSHOP CONTENT
  • Plenary sessions with invited keynote speakers OLIVIER BARGAIN (Bordeaux School of Economics) and PAUL MAKDISSI (University of Ottawa).
  • Presentations (in-session and poster) and discussions of original papers.
  • A roundtable discussion moderated by the economist and journalist ALBERT KOSTANIAN on Lebanon's economic and social situation in the aftermath of Lebanon's recent multiple crises. 

 

HOW TO SUBMIT A PAPER

Researchers interested in presenting their work at the workshop are invited to submit a full paper or a long abstract in .pdf format.

Submissions are accepted in English or French. The workshop will be held in English.

The length of the long abstract should be a minimum of 750 words. Authors whose long abstracts have been accepted for a presentation or a poster will be asked to submit their full paper at least two weeks before the workshop.

 

IMPORTANT DATES

  • Submission deadline (full paper/long abstract): June 25th, 2023
  • Notification of acceptance: July 10th, 2023
  • Publication of the preliminary program: September 15th, 2023
  • Deadline for sending full papers: October 15th, 2023

REGISTRATION FEES

There are no registration fees. However, as the number of participants at the venue is limited, registration for the event is compulsory. Registration will open on July 15th, 2023.
